Retrospective: Semmering Symposium 2009

The 2009 symposium once more brought together world leading scientists, top-class vaccine developers, well-known experts from the financial and pharmaceutical arena, as well as students and representatives from non-profit organizations, at the Hotel Schloss Weikersdorf in Baden near Vienna.

The symposium dealt with two strongly related areas, immune therapeutic and passive vaccination. Renowned speakers from around the world, including vaccine and science giants like Jean Stéphenne (GSK), Stanley Plotkin (University of Pennsylvania), Peter Lachmann (Cambridge University, UK) and Rino Rappuoli (Novartis), presented recent trends and new ideas regarding the development of novel vaccine concepts.

The scientific agenda was supplemented by a social program, PR-measures and specific activities to interconnect the participants’ different backgrounds and to build a web within the vaccine community.

The symposium 2009 was, especially due to the high-class program, a deeply appreciated event which enabled the interaction between leaders in the field in a relaxing atmosphere.
